Reviews
Kotumsar Cave, located in Chattisgarh near Jagdalpur, is an awe-inspiring natural wonder that leaves visitors spellbound with its captivating beauty. As an avid traveler, I recently had the opportunity to explore this magnificent underground marvel, and I must say it surpassed all my expectations.
Upon entering the cave, I was immediately struck by its immense size and intricate rock formations. The stalactites and stalagmites hanging from the ceiling and rising from the floor created a surreal atmosphere. The play of light and shadow added a mystical touch, further enhancing the ethereal ambiance of the cave.
One of the highlights of the Kotumsar Cave is the musical fountain, where droplets of water falling from the roof create a harmonious symphony. The sound reverberating through the cave is both soothing and mesmerizing, transporting visitors to another world.
The cave also offers a diverse range of flora and fauna. I spotted several species of bats and insects that have made this subterranean habitat their home. The natural beauty and biodiversity found within Kotumsar Cave are truly remarkable.
However, it's worth mentioning that the cave can be challenging to navigate for individuals with mobility issues. The pathways can be narrow and uneven, requiring caution and proper footwear. Additionally, due to the fragile ecosystem, it is essential to follow the guidelines provided by the authorities to preserve the cave's natural heritage.
My experience at Kotumsar Cave was nothing short of extraordinary. It is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone looking to witness the splendor of Mother Nature. The grandeur of the cave, combined with its unique geological features and the enchanting musical fountain, make it a truly memorable and unforgettable attraction in Jagdalpur, Chattisgarh.
Now you can't visit the cave alone, you have to club it with a visit to Kanger Valley National Park. The charges are exorbitant as you have to hire a Gypsy and Compulsory Guide apart from ticket charges. For six adults the charge is Rs2400 as on Dec 2023. Secondly this cave opens only after the rainy season so plz check out whether the cave is open for visit or not.
Not as very big as I thought. But good to visit. The entry is very narrow and steep to enter. You have to be flexible and crouch to enter. This place can be visited only through the guide and safari vehicle. Each vehicle and guide costs 2600 per 6 persons.
Limestone cave.....u can see the speleothems i.e., ( stalactite, stalagmite )...and blind fish (The fish has no eyes and is white for lack of melanin pigmentation) ....ask ur guide to switch off the lights for a few seconds to experience the calmness inside...
Vibrant and full of surprises.. Adventurous
The cave is really one of the best place to visit, it will make you curious about the nature and its formations. It is more than 350 meters long cave and very adventurous to go inside.
While going on NH30 from jagdalpur take right for Tirathgarh and left for Kotumsar Cave, forest department vehicles will be there for going to the cave on chargeable basis (1 vehicle = 2400rs approx.) Seating capacity - 7/8 person. Whole trip will take 2-2.5 hours.
Situated at about 40 km from Jagdalpur, Kotumsar Caves stretch for about 1370 meters and are 35 meters underground. Made up of pure limestone, this alluring cave is adjacent to river Kanger in the western side of Kanger Ghati National Park. Many renowned explorers have searched this cave during the early 1900s. It is one of the most famous caves in the state of Chhattisgarh.
The caves have rocky floors with water pools in several spots. There are no natural lights inside the cave. This, combined with steep and narrow passages (some of which are downward sloping) makes exploring these caves a risky business. Yet, it attracts tourists in large amounts. You can enter the caves through the narrow steps and will have to pass very narrow chambers and passages before getting to the main hall that features impressive acoustics. This sure gets the adrenaline high and blood pumping. There are several interesting tribal tales attached to the caves. The caves also house several species of reptiles and insects like bats, snakes, frog, cricket, spiders, millipedes, and more.
Please note the fact that there is a lack of oxygen in deeper areas of the caves. For safety purposes, entry in some parts of the caves is strictly restricted to tourists and the local population.
